Conservation Framing

Can a picture tell a thousand words? Yes, it truly can. Thanks to the wonder of photography, a moment, or a smile, can even outlast us – suspended in time, like a window to another time as clear as the day it was taken. Over years and decades, however, photographs – especially older photographs – can suffer damage from humidity due to swelling – a perfect environment for mould – and deteriorate and fade even in indirect UV light. Older and cheaper papers and inks may be unstable, and have a low pH, leading to a sort of burn that develops around the edges of the image, but slowly ruins the entire picture.
